My yoga journey began in 1998 when a friend and I joined an introductory Ashtanga Yoga course. My motivation to begin yoga, like with many people, was to get a great physical workout. I soon discovered there was much more to yoga than the physical aspect.
After 10 years of personal practice I had a strong desire to share my love of yoga with others. Through a reputable company based in Santa Monica, CA, 'Yogaworks' I became certified in Vinyasa Flow style. I had the pleasure to learn with teachers Annie Carpenter, Kia Miller, Bahni Turpin and Joan Hyman. In 2010, I completed certification in ISHTA Yoga (Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra and Ayurveda). Then in 2012, I at the Yoga Journal Conference in San Diego I learned from amazing yoga teachers: Sean Corne, David Swenson, Kathryn Budig, Gary Kraftsow, Vinnie Marino and more. Just recently I completed the Yin Yoga Certification through the Canadian Institute of Therapeutic Yoga.
My personal practice of yoga has evolved over two decades and I continue to seek, learn and grow both in yoga asana and yoga lifestyle. I also currently work full time as a resource teacher/counsellor with the Calgary Board of Education going into my 20th year with the Board. Recently, I completed a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology inspired by the influence of Yoga. It is the blending of eastern philosophy and western psychology that I feel lends well in creating a mindful yoga class.
